During the public-comment portion of the meeting, Mr. Lewis told commissioners he had repeatedly experienced what he described as abusive policing and urged the commission to act. He said he graduated locally in 1994, served in the Marine Corps and has continued to experience troubling interactions with officers. "You guys' cops are out of control out of here," he said, adding that he had been verbally abused and that the community needs change.
The commission listened and thanked Mr. Lewis for speaking. Commissioners previously discussed RIPA data and oversight steps at the same meeting, and the public comment added a personal account to the broader procedural discussion about data, ride-alongs and accountability mechanisms.
