County accepts multiple highway supply bids for fuel, asphalt, gravel and road oil

County highway staff and commissioners completed a multi-item procurement on March 3, approving vendor bids for fuel, asphalt mixes, gravel crushing, road oil and quartzite used in county road maintenance.
Highway Superintendent Dave Sorenson reported fuel bids from Coles Petroleum and Vollan Oil and recommended accepting Vollan Oil’s bid for diesel and unleaded supplies. The Board accepted his recommendation by motion. The Board also accepted multiple asphalt bids to be selected by availability and job size; Jamir Reclamation, Huron, Commercial Asphalt and others submitted competitive offers. For gravel, Rechnagel Construction was awarded $2.35 per ton for 3/4-inch material. Road oil bids were awarded to Jebro with listed per-ton prices, and Spencer Quarries was awarded quartzite at $16.00 per ton.
Commissioners approved each recommendation by motion and unanimous vote. The county will source materials based on project needs and vendor availability; staff said specific sourcing would be decided on a job-by-job basis.
The approvals position the Highway Department to begin seasonal work and respond to repair needs as weather and schedules permit.
