Rockford School will retain needed water and sell annual surplus, board votes to approve plan

The Rockford School Board approved a School Property and Water plan that allows the district to retain water required for campus operations and sell surplus water annually.
Superintendent/Principal Caron Borba explained that the school currently has access to more water than it needs for operations and that excess water could be sold while the school retains its necessary allotment. Earlier in the meeting Director of MOT Francisco Carmona reported a well reading of 52 feet. The board approved the plan (motion by Bill Walker; second David Gisler; AYES: Walker, Gisler).
Why it matters: the plan creates an ongoing revenue option for the district by selling surplus water while preserving required operational supply. Staff said the surplus is expected to accrue over time and be available for annual sale but did not provide a buyer or sale schedule at the meeting.
What’s next: staff will continue to monitor water accrual and present any sale contracts or recommended sale timing to the board for approval.
