Rockford board advances modernization work, approves consultant and HVAC plans

The Rockford School Board on Sept. 11 approved contracts and plans to move forward with a campus modernization project that includes new HVAC installations and a lengthy electrical schedule.
Director of Pupil Services Daniel Chand told the board the modernization effort now includes a consultant and an architect and that construction could begin during the Christmas break and at other times students are off campus. He said electrical work is expected to span 143 working days and that new HVAC systems are planned for all classrooms. Chand also said the consultant will consolidate available funding sources and present a detailed financial overview at the next board meeting; that overview will be presented by a person identified in the meeting only as "Joseph."
The board approved a contract for Triton Consulting Group to provide services beyond the architect, including planning support, walkthroughs, grant-seeking, and county-specific guidance. Bill Walker moved the motion, and Jacalyn Witzel seconded; the vote was AYES: Witzel, Walker; Absent: Gisler.
Board members approved a separate vendor estimate of $24,835.03 from Absolute Temperature Control LLC to install a mini-split in Room 301 and a $40,440.40 estimate from Pat Hunt Construction for interior offices for maintenance and IT staff. These vendor approvals were presented as part of the campus facilities and systems upgrades tied to the broader modernization project.
The board did not set a final construction start date at the meeting. Staff described efforts to schedule disruptive work during student absences and to continue programs such as the Expanded Learning Opportunities Program (ELOP) where feasible. The board will receive a consolidated funding summary at the next meeting.
