At the public hearing, John Green urged the town to contract with an expert to value utility properties on an expedited basis; he cited other towns' experiences and suggested the town could fund the work from existing assessing reserves.
The board agreed it was a sound idea. The proposed Article 43 would transfer up to $30,000 from the assessing and reevaluation reserve (which already holds funds from prior allocations) to contract with an expert to perform periodic reviews of utility properties rather than raising new taxes. Town Administrator Becky Taylor-Chase said an RFP is already out for revaluation work and the transfer would use existing reserve funds.
Next steps: Article 43 language will be included in the warrant as a transfer from the assessing and reevaluation reserve to enable contracting for utility-property expertise; the exact contract figure will be determined through the Town's procurement process.
