The Freehold Township Historic Preservation Commission recorded at its July 20 meeting that reconstruction and installation of the West Freehold Schoolhouse are finished. The minutes say a painter is scheduled for the first week of August 2026 and that interior repainting will follow. Shutters are being manufactured for installation in fall 2026. The minutes also note a security-system transformer shows a burn mark and has been unplugged pending an electrician’s inspection.
The commission discussed the next project: replacing the front porch flooring and columns. Leiffert Home Improvement provided an estimate of about $13,000 to replace the porch flooring and columns and to repaint/stain. Commission member Michael Berman said he will check with Jim Lapointe of Freehold to obtain a comparative price; the minutes add the commission may be able to reuse stored salvage columns from Oakley Farm to reduce costs.
