CDD discusses multiagency storm surge resilience plan after recent flooding

Eric Long told the Board that storm surge has had increasing impacts in recent years and outlined an action plan being developed to build resilience over the next five to ten years. He described convening an advisory/review panel and coordinating with State, County and Village agencies, and suggested the CDD designate a Board representative and staff or engineering representative to assist with coordination.
Mr. Long cited a hypothetical topographic map suggesting a 10'–12' storm surge could flood 45%–55% of Pelican Sound. He said addressing resilience may take a decade and require multiagency funding; he asked for Board support and named Mr. Long and Mr. Merrill to assist. District Counsel noted the Army Corps had presented ideas to Collier County should funding become available.
