The Freehold Township Parks and Recreation Commission reported current summer camp enrollment at 531 registrants and noted that Monmouth County restored funding for counselors under the Summer Youth Work Experience Program to match last year’s level.
During discussion the Commission requested adding a police officer or private security guard for the camp program. Recreation Superintendent Sue McGough noted that the matter ‘‘falls outside the jurisdiction of the Commission’’ and said existing union contracts restrict hiring private security; the commission is awaiting a response from Maureen Fasano on alternative actions.
