Wrangell Assembly approves ordinance to dissolve Parks & Recreation Board

Borough Manager Villarma told the assembly that "the Parks & Recreation Board would be dissolved and that Parks & Recreation would create a non-profit like the Library and Museum; [the department] would have greater opportunities for grant funding under this structure." Mayor Patricia Gilbert opened the public hearing on the ordinance and, hearing no public comment, closed the hearing before the assembly voted to approve the ordinance on a polled vote. The motion to adopt was made by Powell and seconded by Yeager.
The ordinance change transfers the department away from a board structure toward a nonprofit model for program delivery and fundraising.
