District administrators provided a series of operational updates during the Dec. 17 meeting.
Mr. Culp reported athletic results: the high school boys basketball team is 6-3 and won the Calvary Turkey Shootout; the girls are 7-4 and 3-0 in conference play. Junior-high teams had mixed results, and holiday tournaments were noted. Mrs. Rock outlined curriculum work: staff are evaluating Amplify CKLA/ELA (3rd edition) for a K–8 reading-series renewal and a Google Classroom was established for teacher training. She also announced the Food Forest spring planting target date of April 8 (backup April 10) and a Jan. 16 "Legacy Night" chili-supper fundraiser tied to the LW Legacy Scholarship.
Dr. Merila summarized outreach and student programs: a parent-teacher conference survey showed 93% of responding junior-high and high-school families preferred the group-conference model; the fifth-grade DARE graduation was celebrated and the district will expand DARE to eighth grade next semester. CEO program recruitment is open for 2026–27 with mentor matching underway for current students.
Superintendent Dr. David Johnson reported a completed HLS inspection with new regional inspectors and noted a $3,500 holdback on a classroom-renovation final payment because of tile-discoloration issues. On finance, he reported year-to-date totals through Nov. 30: $4,599,551 in revenue and $3,202,245 in expenditures, and sales-tax receipts for October of $15,948.90. Dr. Johnson also announced a planned $100 perfect-attendance bonus for eligible staff in the next payroll, estimating 11 staff would receive it.
