The department said it is considering the replacement in future budgets (noted for the 2029 budget cycle).
Committee members also discussed federal surplus options through the 1033 program for military-grade protective equipment. The Sheriff’s Office noted $7,000 in the 2026 sheriff budget for rifle armor and said it will continue researching armored vehicles; the minutes list an annual cost figure for an MRAP as $250 plus maintenance. The committee did not authorize purchases at the meeting and directed further review of costs, policy implications, and procurement pathways.
