Price County committee advances proposal to regulate "dangerous animal households"

The Price County Law Enforcement Committee voted Feb. 5 to move forward with drafting an ordinance titled “Dangerous Animal Household” to address homeowners who keep multiple dangerous animals, a change from the current ordinance that covers only individual animals. Committee member Robert Kopisch moved to develop the ordinance language and incorporate it into the existing code; Dennis Wartgow seconded the motion and it carried.
The proposed ordinance would establish citation amounts, restriction requirements, a process to dispute designations, and potential penalties. The committee did not adopt final language at the meeting; members directed staff to draft specific ordinance language for future consideration and formal review by county counsel and, if needed, the full county board.
