Chair Doggett opened the committee's first Judiciary meeting of 2026, welcomed members and noted a prior longer meeting earlier in the day: "Well, thank you everyone for, having a little patience there... I wanna thank everybody for being here for the 1st judiciary committee meeting in 2026." He then directed staff to take role and established a quorum.
Several members used their recognition time to welcome guests. One member asked colleagues to help welcome "a constituent of mine, Mister Jeremy Thompson, who is with us visiting today from Lincoln County." Representative Salinas welcomed a constituent named "Sarah 1st," and Representative Travis recognized his wife, Laura Travis, saying, "I would like to recognize my lovely bride of 37 years... Laura Travis." These personal recognitions occurred at the start of the agenda before the committee took up House Bill 184.
