Resident presents due-process resolution; Selectboard defers decision to Nov. 25

Resident Patricia Rennau presented a proposed town resolution intended to "condemn violations of due process and affirm the Town of Fayston’s commitment to protection of constitutional rights of all people," and read the draft cover note and resolution text to the board. She said similar resolutions based on a Rutland City model have been adopted by roughly 21 towns in Vermont.
Board members said they received the wording only that day and wanted time to review comparable versions adopted by other towns before taking any position. Chair Chuck Martel said the Selectboard would not decide at this meeting and proposed placing the item on the Nov. 25 agenda for further consideration. Resident Jared Cadwell urged action sooner, saying "Who is standing up? It's incumbent on us to take a stand," but the board did not vote and did not adopt the resolution on Oct. 28.
The board's discussion focused on whether such a statement should be presented to the town at Town Meeting rather than adopted by the Selectboard on its own. The board directed that different approved versions from other towns be reviewed and that the resolution be returned to a future agenda for further deliberation.
