Selectboard approves temporary curb cut extension for logging at 411 Marble Hill Road
Summary
The Fayston Selectboard approved a temporary 5–6-foot extension of an existing curb cut at 411 Marble Hill Road to allow forestry access, conditioned on use limited to logging and requiring DRB approval for any upgrade.
Chair Chuck Martel on Oct. 28 moved that the board approve a modest extension to the existing natural curb cut at 411 Marble Hill Road to allow safer turning for forestry vehicles; Selectboard member Michael Jordan seconded and the motion passed unanimously.
Edward O’Connor, who requested the change, told the board he did not intend to pave or otherwise upgrade the road and asked only to extend the natural curb cut “by 5-6’ to permit vehicles to turn safely.” Road Foreman Josh Livingston questioned whether a 5–6-foot extension would be sufficient for log trucks but said that an extension of that length “isn’t an issue for me” if no upgrade is planned. The board added a written condition limiting the permit to temporary access for forestry and logging-related activities and requiring Development Review Board approval for any upgrade.
The Selectboard signed the permit after the motion. The board did not set a firm time limit in the meeting discussion, and Edward said he had not yet contracted with a logger. The approval therefore applies to the temporary forestry use described in the request and any change to a permanent or upgraded access will require separate review and DRB approval.
