The Grant County Planning & Zoning Board rescinded a prior recommendation to approve and publish a modified agricultural building-permit application after a board member raised a statutory concern. Vice‑Chairman Matt Hager moved to rescind the earlier recommendation; Barb Kraft seconded, and the motion carried.
P&Z Director Jason Albert had presented a revised permit application and an advertisement reflecting the board’s May decision on agricultural-use buildings and the board initially voted to recommend approval to the Grant County Commissioners. During the meeting, board member Vernon Straub stopped participating in votes and, when questioned by Vice‑Chairman Hager, said he opposed the modification because he believed it conflicted with the North Dakota Century Code. Following that exchange the board voted to rescind its earlier recommendation and instructed Director Albert to research the statutory issue for discussion at the July 9, 2026 meeting.
The action leaves the modified application and advertisement without a recommendation to the commissioners pending the director’s research. The board recorded its procedural motions on the record: the initial recommendation to approve was made by Matt Hager and seconded by Barb Kraft; the motion to rescind was made by Matt Hager and seconded by Barb Kraft. No formal vote tally beyond “all were in favor” was recorded in the minutes.
