The Milford Police Department requested and received council authorization to pursue a technology and equipment grant that would add in-car cameras, replace body cameras with Axon equipment and update squad-car laptops. The department said the grant would cover 100% of the quoted equipment and that the town would not need to provide matching funds.
The police representative said: "The grant is a 100%. The town does not have to put up any." Council members asked about the total cost during discussion; staff and members cited two similar figures in the meeting record — one speaker referred to $147,775 while another cited $144,730 — and the department said the grant was the reason for pursuing the equipment due to the amount involved. The council moved, seconded and approved pursuing the grant application on a voice vote.
Staff also described technical benefits of switching vendors (from Gtech to Axon) including synchronization between body and in-car cameras and replacement of aging laptops that are five or more years old.
