The council opened and closed a public hearing on a sign variance for a billboard located on US 20 and then voted to allow the variance. Applicant Robert Miller, who said he lives in Mishawaka, presented the proposal and described content controls and a national operations center that can push AMBER and weather alerts to the sign. He told councilors, "We'll put restrictions on there, basic restrictions on things."
Council members asked whether nearby businesses (including Jayco) had been notified; Miller said they had not yet been notified but that the sign operator will attempt to prevent offensive content and that the town has an override to take content down if it gets through. The council voted to approve the variance following the public hearing with no recorded amendment to the applicant’s conditions.
