Superintendent Becky Bell told the board that, under a new legislative rule, Shaw Island School District would not qualify for Transition to Kindergarten (TK) funding next year because it did not have TK students in the current school year. Bell said she was examining options the district might use to accommodate early kindergarten entry despite the ineligibility.
Bell also outlined several grant opportunities staff are pursuing for the coming school year: the REAP SRSA Grant, a San Juan County (SJC) Mental Health Grant, and a potential United Way grant. She said she was investigating what uses would be permitted under the United Way funding.
Board members took note of the items for future budget and program consideration as staff continue to research eligibility and allowable uses.
