Council approves $22,099 to complete Murphy Park accessible restroom

The New Harmony Town Council voted to provide $22,099 to complete the Murphy Park restroom project after a Parks & Trails presentation showing final bids and funding shortfalls. Jeanne Modlin, president of the New Harmony Parks and Trails board, outlined the project costs and funding history, telling the council the project estimate was "$73,640" and that the parks board previously received an allocation of $45,000 from the council and grants totaling $12,600; Harmony Associates pledged an additional $10,000. Modlin said, "So tonight, our request to you is for $22,099," and asked the council to approve the funding so the restroom would be ready for fall events.
Project manager Jim Reese described the design: the maintenance room will be split to create a heated, year-round ADA family restroom while retaining storage. Reese explained the bidding approach and two connection revisions evaluated to tie the new restroom into existing sewer lines. Council members discussed the scope and were told one contractor could start in about three weeks and finish in three to four weeks.
Councilmember (speaker 3) moved to accept the request and the motion was seconded; the council voted in favor with the president announcing, "Motion carries." The funds requested will complete construction to meet ADA and Indiana State Board of Health standards, and council members said they expect the new restroom to improve year‑round access at the park.
