Board hears teacher housing update; fundraising accounts to open, donated house needs significant repairs

Superintendent Becky Bell updated the board on the teacher housing project, reporting that the District has received two large invoices and is awaiting a change order for the well house slab.
Bell said a fundraising account with the San Juan Island Community Foundation will be opened in the next few days; she also noted existing funds in an Orcas Island Community Foundation account from school house pin sales. The board discussed outreach to potential donors and the remaining funds needed to complete the housing project.
Director Carol Criss reported on an inspection of a house that may be donated to the District. Criss said the roof and the windows would need to be redone and that foundation, plumbing, and electrical work would probably be required. Criss said the homeowners indicated a donation could occur in about two years.
Separately, Director Jon Shannon raised capital-project items including redoing the parking area, replacing a fence railing, and reviewing the water system; he proposed seeking phone bids to get work done this summer.
