Residents raise relocation concerns as commission backs industrial rezoning

The Tulsa Metropolitan Area Planning Commission voted 10-0 on July 1 to recommend rezoning 11 properties from RS-3 to IM, a move staff said would accommodate moderate industrial uses and support proximity to existing industrial sites. The proposal is tied to a proposed major utility/battery storage use near a PSO substation located on the Arkansas River.

During public comment, resident Ana Barros said she was "concerned about multiple families who have very limited choices that are likely going to lose their homes to an out-of-state developer" and urged the commission to consider the community impact and investigate. Applicant representative Melissa Miller said the developer had met with property owners, "help[ing] find them another place to live" and offering affordable purchase options; several commissioners thanked the applicant for outreach. The commission recommended approval 10-0; the minutes record both the resident’s concerns and the applicant’s assurances but do not include enforceable relocation terms in the record.
