The council voted to receive and file the Planning Commission’s five‑year master plan review for 2024 and discussed launching a comprehensive overhaul of the city’s master plan, which city staff said has not been fully rewritten since 2007.
Councilmembers emphasized the importance of public input and said they plan to hire a consultant to guide an extensive review. "We're gonna sit down actually me and Laura's gonna sit down, have a meeting and kind of see how we really want to go about doing this — what the plan of attack's gonna be," a council member said, signaling staff-led coordination. Officials described plans for published public hearings, town halls at schools and community locations, and outreach to residents and businesses to weigh in on future land‑use, housing and business designations.
Planning staff said the five‑year review found only a couple of items that stood out this cycle but recommended a complete rewrite to reflect changes since 2007. The council instructed staff to develop a timeline, hire outside support as needed and ensure the review process allows broad resident comment.
