During the public comment portion of the July 13 meeting, Oceana Echo community correspondent Sharon Hallack introduced the paper's summer intern, Shelbie Choponis, who may attend future council meetings in Hallack's place when needed. Hallack said the Echo is changing its delivery model so papers go to readers who request them and that the paper will remain free; she thanked the municipality for support through public notices that help fund printing.
Resident Edward Parcell (257 Willowside Dr.) said he and his wife moved to Shelby last October and credited the Echo with helping them feel part of the community. Parcell praised the CarvePrize Festival as "a phenomenal event" and suggested placing the stage in a different location for the auctioneer in future years to improve logistics.
