Commission authorizes up to $5,000 for Town Green tree care; bench program pricing to be updated

Darlene Briggs reported a Save a Tree estimate of $4,000 for tree fertilization, disease spraying and trimming and moved to authorize up to $5,000 from the town’s Other Professional Services account to cover Town Green tree work; the motion was seconded by Kristen Meyer and approved unanimously. Jim Crawford said the Tree Warden should be involved and that DPW could perform the work under a licensed arborist’s direction.
Separately, Planning staff Peter Gillespie said he will research the bench memorial program to find previously approved locations, bench designs and accurate pricing after discovering the flyer contained outdated information. The commission approved the tree work authorization at the April 9 meeting and asked staff to obtain formal estimates before work begins.
