Town Planner Abby McVerry provided detailed status updates on several sidewalk projects affecting Boston Post Road/Route 1.
McVerry said the 2020 STEAP grant project (Boston Post Road West) is no longer funded under STEAP and requires an encroachment permit from the Connecticut Department of Transportation; the town is hoping for a fall start. She explained the TA grant project has been renamed Route 1 East (two Boston Post Road East sidewalk projects) and is in preliminary plans with property-owner coordination and a targeted Spring 2027 construction start. For the STEAP 2022 project (Boston Post Road – OS Town Line) staff recently received the IW permit and plan to go out to bid soon, but they still need some property agreements.
McVerry flagged a potential scheduling conflict: CT Water plans to replace a water main after Labor Day, which would include digging up sidewalk areas and could overlap with the town’s planned work. She advised the commission that coordination with CT Water and affected property owners will be required before final scheduling and bidding.
