The Village of Ceresco Board of Trustees approved the first reading of Ordinance 2026-5 on June 16, updating Chapter 6, Article 1 to clarify responsibility for removal costs of obstructions in public rights-of-way.
The ordinance text states that when a police officer or village official finds an obstruction in streets, alleys, or sidewalks, the owner or person responsible shall be charged with reasonable costs for removal, towing, and storage. If a vehicle is removed, towing or storage fees become a lien on the vehicle prior to other claims; the lien does not apply to vehicle contents. Chairman Scott Peterson introduced the ordinance and the Board voted unanimously to approve the title and first reading.
The measure cites Nebraska statutes (Neb. Rev. Stat. §17-557, §60-6,165, 60-680) in the draft text and instructs village departments to implement the changes following final adoption. The second reading will be placed on the next Board agenda.
