Westbrook committee presses for new wastewater approaches after 25 years of effort

Town planners and committee members on April 9 discussed Westbrook’s long-running effort to secure suitable wastewater systems for the town center. Peter Gillespie said the town scheduled a follow-up meeting for April 16 and reported that Westbrook has received feedback about its ranking on the Clean Water Fund list.
Committee chair Marilyn Ozols and member Meri Wick framed the discussion as a decades-long effort. "TCRC has been pushing for a wastewater system for 25 (twenty-five) years," Ozols said; Wick urged making a checklist of tasks — contacting legislators, consulting RiverCOG and seeking partnerships with nearby towns — and exploring innovative systems that have worked elsewhere even if CT DEEP has not yet approved them. The meeting produced direction for staff to compile past work and next steps; no formal vote or new funding was approved.
