Westbrook: STEAP-funded Boston Post Road East project cleared local approvals; water‑main work may shift schedule

Planning staff told the joint meeting that the STEAP 2022 sidewalk project on Boston Post Road East has secured approvals from the Board of Selectmen, Planning Commission and Inland Wetlands and will be advertised for bids. Staff warned, however, that a CT Water Company water-main replacement planned after Labor Day could affect the sidewalk construction timeline because the existing north-side connections mean sidewalks installed now might be dug up during the water-main work.
"They are now going to put this project out to bid. The CT Water Company is planning to do a water main replacement right after Labor Day," Planning staff member Peter Gillespie reported. He said the new main will be on the south side while connections to properties remain on the north, so staff will coordinate schedules to avoid rework. No funding action was taken at the meeting.
