Board accepts multiple grants, moves to fence campus and pursue larger construction funding

Superintendent Bruce Todd reported several capital and accessibility awards and planned projects. He said the district was awarded a $300,000 safety and security grant to complete fencing around school grounds and a $150,000 ADA grant to widen a door from the Ag classroom into the Ag shop and to install automated openers on doors leading into the Ag spaces. The district also received a $100,000 Douglas County PUD grant toward windows and doors, of which $80,000 was received in February and the remaining $20,000 will be awarded upon project completion.
Todd also described a $38,000 planning grant to prepare for the next biennium’s SDMG application; that planning grant would allow the district to apply for a potential 2027–28 SDMG award of up to $5.8 million for broader facility work (doors, windows, cabinets, locker rooms, bleachers, weight room and stage curtain). Superintendent Todd said bids for the fencing project are in-hand and he intends to contact the lowest bidder to begin work this summer.
