Jesse Southworth, chair of the Community Services Board, asked the council for direction to develop a formal sponsorship framework to allow businesses to sponsor leagues, jerseys and city events. Southworth said neighboring cities have programs with sponsorship tiers ranging from a few hundred dollars up to $25,000, and she recommended starting with simple jersey‑logo sponsorships to offset program costs and expand access.
Council members voiced support for drafting a policy but urged clear rules: avoid giving unfair preference to a single sponsor, allow removal of sponsorship if the sponsor causes reputational problems, and coordinate with local nonprofits so sponsorships do not undercut their fundraising. The council asked the board to draft the policy and return with recommended procedures, pricing tiers and a system to manage sponsor solicitation and renewals.
