Rock Island County administrators told the Finance & Personnel Committee they will replace the Animal Care & Control reader board with a digital LED sign and approved a preventative HVAC maintenance agreement for the facility.
County Administrator Jim Grafton recommended Riverbend SignWorks for the LED sign, saying the proposal is "to go with Riverbend at a cost of $25,026.61 with a 5-year warranty and 10mm light bulbs." The committee approved the signage funding by voice vote and also approved an HVAC preventative maintenance contract with Precision Air at $1,495 per quarter; Grafton noted Johnson Controls quoted about $1,400 more for quarterly service.
Committee member Kai Swanson supported the signage but emphasized organizers need to pair it with improved electronic outreach to drive adoptions. Grafton said the county is prioritizing a staff hire to manage website and daily updates: "My current priority is to upgrade our website so it is more user friendly so we can communicate what animals we have that are adoptable."
