The Board of Abatement voted unanimously on Dec. 9 to grant a full property tax abatement of $4,783.75 for property owner Mickey Florucci at 68 Lathrop Court. The board said members approved the abatement after hearing from Florucci by conference call and from his legal counsel, Leah Burdick.
According to the board minutes, Florucci said he is disabled and awaiting a double lung transplant, has lived at Woodridge Nursing Home for the past 18 months, and receives Social Security Disability Insurance as his family's sole source of income. The minutes also state his wife does not work and the couple has two young children; Florucci told the board he did not realize a homestead declaration and property tax credit must be filed annually and said he will file in future years.
Board member Justin Ducey moved to abate the taxes in full; Heather King seconded the motion. The board recorded that the motion passed unanimously, approving the abatement in the amount of $4,783.75. The board had earlier entered and exited an executive session to discuss the request, motions show.
The meeting minutes list Elaine Owen as chair of the Board of Abatement. The meeting adjourned at 6:40 P.M.
