Civil Service Commission asks council for General Fund support to pay legal counsel in employee appeal

Raymond Gravelle, speaking for the Civil Service Commission, told council that the Commission had received Ryan Cox’s appeal and asked that the General Fund provide money for legal counsel to manage the appeal process. Gravelle cited RCW 41.12.200 as the statutory allotment that supports the request and asked Mayor Peter Sharp about plans for filling the police chief position.
Councilmember Gorman requested that Commissioner Gravelle provide a copy of his notes for review of the funding request; Gravelle declined that request, and the minutes were asked to reflect that. The council did not take immediate action on the funding request during the meeting; Gravelle said he would provide supporting materials to the council.
