Butler County to solicit bids to replace failing North Shop fuel pumps

Butler County commissioners on July 7 authorized Public Works to advertise for competitive bids to replace the North Shop fuel pumps after staff said the current suction-based pumps are outdated and cannot be reliably repaired.
Public Works Director Curtis Mader told the Board that two separate vendors evaluated the pumps and recommended replacing them with a modern system that uses pumps mounted at the storage tanks to push fuel, improving reliability and flow, especially during afternoon hours. “Once a system has been selected staff will advertise the project for competitive bids for both the equipment and installation,” Mader said. Commissioner Darren Jackson moved to solicit bids for the replacement; Commissioner Dan Woydziak seconded. The motion carried 5-0.
Mader also used the discussion to note other ongoing roadway and maintenance priorities, including the NW 150th Street bridge, county chip sealing work, and a culvert replacement on SW 210th Street. The Board gave staff approval to proceed with the procurement process but did not select a vendor or appropriation at this meeting.
