Butler County adds another pickup to Public Works vehicle bid package

The Butler County Board of Commissioners on July 7 approved adding a half-ton pickup to an existing Public Works bid package to replace the Assistant County Engineer's vehicle and reassign the current pickup as an Engineering inspection vehicle.
Public Works Director Curtis Mader told the Board he recently hired a new surveyor and that the GMC Yukon, which houses survey equipment, will become the surveyor's assigned vehicle. To maintain field and inspection capacity, staff recommended purchasing an additional half-ton pickup. “I move to approve Public Works to add another half-ton pickup to the bid package,” Commissioner Dan Woydziak said when making the motion; Commissioner Jeff Masterson seconded. The motion carried 5-0.
Mader explained that several vehicles were reassigned after staffing changes and that one pickup now slated for reassignment is experiencing significant engine problems and is not worth repairing. The buy-and-reassign approach, he said, keeps specialized vehicles such as the Yukon in service for survey work while restoring a reliable inspection vehicle for engineering staff. The Board approved the procurement request without further amendment and took no additional action on the broader Capital Improvement Plan at this time.
