Commission reviews CVEDC regional priority list led by Greenway College proposal

At the Jan. 8 meeting Rich Turner summarized the Central Vermont Economic Development Corporation (CVEDC) regional priority projects list, saying the CVEDC received 22 applications and the regional ranking is led by the Greenway College proposal to launch a new engineering college.
Turner said the list of regional priorities reflects application scores rather than a deliberate attempt to concentrate projects in larger towns. "The regional list is led by the Greenway College project, an initiative to launch a new engineering college," Turner said. Rama Schneider asked, "Is there any intent in the process to keep these in the larger cities?" Turner replied that the ranking reflects scores and noted that applications from rural communities were included but that scoring can favor larger-area proposals.
Commissioners did not take formal action on the regional list at the meeting but discussed the CVEDC/CVRPD ranking process and how municipal input might affect local projects' competitiveness.
