County engineer: Preston shop storage shed likely total loss after probable EF1 tornado

County Engineer Jayden Shekel told supervisors that an apparent EF1 tornado recently damaged the Preston shop, a storage structure used for equipment; he said the roof tin and some rafters were gone and the building likely is a total loss. "The roof came off, and so we're working through that on how this will... try to replace that shop," Shekel said, adding that while the shed likely is a total loss, critical equipment inside was largely unharmed.

Shekel said he will coordinate with the auditor and the county’s insurance carrier and recommended bringing a contractor to evaluate the structure and advise whether it is salvageable or should be replaced. The board discussed using insurance proceeds and arranging a replacement once assessments and cost estimates are completed.
