County sets sheriff salary at 80% of State's Attorney pay as required by state law

The Rock Island County Board on April 21 adopted a resolution establishing the salary for the sheriff elected November 2026, setting the sheriff's pay at no less than 80% of the Rock Island County State's Attorney's salary in accordance with the Counties Code and Public Act 102-0699.
Board Member L. Moreno cited Sections 5-1010, 4-2001 and the Local Government Officer Compensation Act (50 ILCS 145/2) in explaining the statutory requirement. When Board Member J.R. Westpfahl asked, "What is the salary?" Moreno replied, "It is 80% of what the State's Attorney makes by state statute." The resolution also notes a required $6,500 stipend to be furnished by the Illinois Department of Revenue under Section 4-6003(d).
The resolution passed on a 16–0 roll-call vote. The board's action followed the statutory timeline requiring salary-setting prior to the election and reflects the allocation of state and county funding shares cited in the packet.
