Jackson County supervisors voted April 7 to approve FY27 rock‑haul contracts to supply and haul rock for an estimated 50 miles of resurfacing across the county. County Engineer Jayden Shekel told the board the plan aims for roughly 400 tons per mile to resurface roads reclaimed in prior years and that bid documents were sent to four local producers and split by district so no single supplier serves all shops. "We picked about 50 miles approximately throughout the county," Shekel said, describing how vendors will both supply and haul rock to reduce county equipment wear and free staff for other work.
Auditor/administrator Lisa Smith read the contract amounts the board was asked to approve: Bard Materials Inc. for $33,143; River City Stone (a division of May Mathy Construction Company Inc.) for $44,811; and Wendling Quarries for about $189,252. Supervisors asked how tonnage and tickets would be tracked and whether heavy loads could cross weight‑restricted bridges; Shekel said county staff will verify tickets, coordinate routes, and monitor progress, and the board approved the contracts by voice vote after a motion to authorize the chair’s signature.
