The Soap Lake City Council on March 5 approved a contract with Attorney Robert Siderius of Jeffers, Danielson, Sonn & Aylward, P.S. to assist the Civil Service Commission with a current appeal. The motion (M/Gorman, S/Olson) carried unanimously. Councilmembers discussed that both proposed attorneys appeared qualified but expressed concerns about the potential cost to the city.
Council also added a new business item to consider a budget for the Civil Service Commission and ultimately tabled that budget discussion. Council requested the commission provide a list of expected expenses; attorney fees were noted as likely to come from the general fund. Raymond Gravelle referenced RCW 41.12.200 when asking about confirmation of an allocation for Civil Service expenses.
