Council renews wildland fire agreement with state to retain suppression coverage and grant access

South Weber’s Fire Chief Derek Tolman explained to the council that the city has long partnered with the Utah Division of Forestry, Fire, and State Lands for community wildland protection and that the prior agreement expired Dec. 31, 2024. The council approved Resolution 25-03 on Jan. 28 to continue the partnership.
Chief Tolman said the arrangement requires the South Weber Fire Department to provide education, preparation, and mitigation while the State covers the suppression cost for wildland fires and provides pathways to state and federal grants. Councilman Wayne Winsor moved to approve Resolution 25-03; Councilman Jeremy Davis seconded and the resolution passed by roll call vote.
Council members said the agreement has proved invaluable in past fires and noted the fiscal savings and grant access it preserves for the city.
