City staff updated the council on options for the 40th Street waterline, recommending a stand-alone solicitation to avoid the higher cost associated with tying the work to a state or federally funded project.
John Anderson said a stand-alone approach would cost about $1.1 million; combining the city work with a state/federal project would increase the total to about $2.2 million. He told the council that projects from prior years left roughly $1.5 million in unspent, allocated water funds that could be used. "I would recommend you're saving 1000000 bucks," Anderson said, characterizing the cost difference as a material savings.
Staff proposed advertising the project within the next three weeks with anticipated council approval on April 1 and potential construction beginning in May. Council members asked about corridor closures and coordination with the school; staff said they would plan road closures and work hours to minimize impacts and would keep the council informed about sequencing of other waterline projects (900 East and 800 East).
