Residents urge rules, public input as city weighs data center plans

Alice Rogers, an Oak Hill resident and organizer with the Cascade Concerned Citizens group, told the council she and neighbors want “clear communication, community input, and transparency” on potential data center projects and urged immediate action to set protections. “We appreciate seeing an agenda item approving an establishment of a committee to help define ordinances and protections,” Rogers said, and invited council members to a community working meeting July 28 at the Cascade Library Community Room.
Resident John Noonan asked whether the new advisory body would duplicate the planning and zoning commission’s duties and urged the council to use the established board to develop ordinances, then take public input. “Instead of work layering on more people, wouldn’t it make sense for this group to work with the zoning board?” Noonan asked. The speakers said interested citizens could feed their concerns into the planning process and expressed a desire for balanced representation on any committee.
