Residents urge Willard Canyon access, request coalition involvement in trail design

At the open-comment period on Dec. 12, 2024, Lynn Murphy of 180 West 300 South, speaking for the Willard Access Canyon Coalition, urged the council to press for public access to Willard Canyon.
Murphy said the easement has been acknowledged by the county and that continued denial of access by Granite Construction and the Wells family lacks justification. She asked that the coalition be included in trail design and repairs, citing the coalition’s professional trail-building teams. Mayor Travis Mote told Murphy the city has been coordinating with the county and engineers, noted the city will be responsible for maintenance, and advised her to speak with the county planning commission about involvement. The mayor said the city is working to finalize the easement in coming weeks.
Council took no formal action at the meeting but staff and the attorney reported ongoing discussions with the Wells' attorney.
