Sam Baca Aquatic Center: inspection passed but state plan review delays opening

The Parks Commission heard an update July 8 from Community Development Director Ryan Robinson on the Sam Baca Aquatic Center. Robinson said the New Mexico Environment Department inspected the pools on June 30 and "we passed the inspection; however, they asked if the plans had been approved." He added that NM CID had previously approved the plans but the environment department's review remained outstanding.
Robinson told commissioners that until the environment department completes its review the commission cannot open the facility. "Once done we will be able to partially open until the competition pool is completed," he said, and noted that concession stands and restrooms have been finished and the inflatable water park will open once approval is received. Commissioners and staff did not set a firm calendar date; Robinson said the pool could open "the next day" after the environmental review is completed. The commission recorded the public's interest in pool status during public comment; a resident, Ms. Jara, asked specifically, "what the actual update on the pool is."
