Public works returns to heavier chip seal; new sweeper arrived after long wait

John told the council the city has moved away from a lighter Uliq product and will use a heavier chip (about 0.375 to 0.5 inch) because the lighter material has worn under heavy snow-plowing. "The Uliq over the last couple years ... it seems to be wearing away as we push more snow," John said, explaining the change.
He also noted the city took delivery of a new street sweeper in May after years of waiting and that crews were able to sweep key corridors more frequently with the new machine. John said staff plan sidewalk, curb and gutter repairs and additional chip-seal work in the spring and will present maps of planned resurfacing.
