The Board of Building Standards voted to find the property at 742 North 13th Street a public nuisance and ordered the owner to demolish the structure or file an appeal in district court within 30 days.
Ricky Wright, the city’s property maintenance inspector, told the board the property had inactive utilities since July 2023, multiple incidents of vagrant activity and break-ins, and that a plan of action had not been submitted. "The recommendation is to find that the property is a public nuisance and that it is a hazard to the public health, safety, and welfare and repair of the structure would be unreasonable," Wright said. The board accepted the staff recommendation and passed the motion on roll call.
Board members moved directly from the staff presentation to a formal order after a brief call for public comment; no owner or representative spoke at the hearing. The order gives the owner 30 days to appeal to district court; if no appeal is filed the city may demolish the structure. The chair closed the case after the vote.
