Council narrowly votes 4–3 to remove Northern Collector Road from transportation plan

After extended public comment and council discussion, the Purcellville Town Council approved a motion to amend the townwide transportation plan to remove references to the Northern Collector Road.

Public speaker Michael Parrish urged removal of the reference during citizen comment, telling the council the planned route would turn Mayfair Crown Drive into "a thoroughfare of thousands of vehicles" and would endanger families, harm quality of life and depress property values. Parrish said removing the reference would "remove yet another dark cloud that has been hanging over Mayfair." Council members debating the motion disagreed about whether the change was legally or practically necessary: opponents said the relevant easement had already been vacated and that removing the language without a new transportation study was premature; proponents said memorializing the council's intent would help persuade the county to drop the corridor from its plan as well.

The motion passed by a 4–3 roll-call vote. Councilmembers who supported the amendment argued it would make the project "dead in the water" and prevent future attempts to resurrect the alignment; opposing members warned that a targeted, ad-hoc change without staff analysis could have unintended consequences. The council recorded the outcome as approved and directed staff to pursue the procedural steps (including Planning Commission hearings) necessary to effect the change at the county level.
