Commission recommends smaller 600 West road profile and approves related subdivision conditioned on Council action
Summary
On Feb. 19 the Planning Commission recommended a 60‑foot standard right‑of‑way for 600 West (down from 63) to accommodate an existing industrial corridor and forwarded the change to Council; the Commission also approved a one‑lot subdivision at 2575 South 600 West conditioned on Council adoption of the new profile.

At a February 19 meeting recorded in the minutes, Senior City Planner Spencer Cawley presented a proposed amendment to the standard road profile for 600 West from 2100 South to 2890 South, reducing the required right‑of‑way from 63 to 60 feet. Staff said travel lanes would remain the same, bike lanes would shrink by one foot per side, park strips would be adjusted, and only one sidewalk would be required on the west side in places that are primarily industrial.
Cawley said the change was necessary because many properties along the corridor are platted or developed and forcing a 1.5‑foot dedication from a single owner would be counterproductive. Commissioners discussed pedestrian access and landscape water use; staff noted the citywide code rewrite was underway but the amendment was needed for a pending subdivision permit.
The Commission voted unanimously to forward a recommendation of approval to City Council for the ordinance to amend Section 17.10.120. Later the Commission approved a preliminary plat for a one‑lot subdivision at 2575 South 600 West (European Marble and Granite) conditioned on Council adoption of the new profile; if Council did not adopt the change the plat would need to dedicate 1.5 feet of ROW or be amended to meet existing code.
